Intelligent things originate from intelligent systems designed by human beings.
M.Sc. in Computer Science Technologies (University of Cagliari - Italy), Ph.D. in Computer Science (University of Compiègne - France). I have been working at CRS4 (Center for Advanced Studies, Research and Development in Sardinia) since 2000. My prevalent commitment is research, technology scouting, and project management. I spent the first couple of years working in the field of distributed applications. After that, I spent 4 years working for a research project (Vickie, a European Project within the Fifth RTD Framework Programme). the project was looking to understand the inclusion of visually impaired pupils in mainstream education. As side projects, I was involved in research on peer-to-peer systems and semantic distributed knowledge bases. In 2002, I started a collaboration with the UTC's Heudiasyc laboratory (University of Compiegne) on knowledge management. This expertise led me to the conclusion of my MSc in 2006 and the defense of my Ph.D. dissertation in 2011, obtained with honors. Since then, I have been conducting independent and collaborative research in information retrieval, ontology engineering, and Web of Data. I have been continuing along the same path while extending my work to the study of Sensor Networks and IoT. Then, I extended my skills in semantics to sensor networks, entering the IoT with semantic sensor networks. In 2015, I spent one month as a Visiting Researcher within the Department of Advanced Robotics at the CIT (Chiba Institute of Technology) in Japan. Subsequently, in 2016, within the Lincoln Centre for Autonomous Systems (L-CAS), the University of Lincoln (United Kingdom), researching in the fields of Semantic Sensor Networks and Robotics. I am leading several industrial collaborations with local SME and start-ups. I have been extending my research interests also to the field of transportation. I also have experience in projects on Smart Cities and Intelligent Transportation Systems with CTM s.p.a., the public transport company in Cagliari, and Department of Civil Engineering, Environment and Architecture University of Cagliari. I am an enthusiast of Open Data and its application in the public sector as well as in the private one. I am a co-founder of Datinanta, a non-profit association promoting crowdsourced Open Data in Sardinia. I am a Project Management Professional (PMP) through the Project Management Institute, Certified Professional I serve as a reviewer in several major Computer Science conferences and journal scientific committees. I am a member of the DART International Workshop steering committee on information filtering and retrieval, in collaboration with the University of Cagliari and the University of Bari. I have been the initiator and developer of several software prototypes. Among them, "Semantic Twitter" an adapted Twitter interface able to post tweets with the concept of the semantic hashtag and "Semantic IoT" an architecture combining semantics and IoT.

Role and responsibilities: research on innovative solutions for mapping urban mobility data on Business Intelligence platforms.Originated from the experience of the platform SoundTracker (www.soundtracker.fm), the "Geo-referenced Social Web Radio", one of the first Social Music Services. The users and their interactions with the system SoundTracker generate a vast amount of data about musical preferences, geographical locations, behaviours related to the place where people listen to music. The project intends to link techniques of Business Intelligence (tools for data warehousing and OLAP) consistently with GIS, to obtain an efficient Geographical Data Warehouse GDW OLAP.
Role and responsibilities: Project Manager. An interdisciplinary project providing a holistic description of environmental problems and practical answers to questions of central importance, the project has produced an advanced problem-solving tool for the integration, through a computing portal, of human know-how, simulation software, instrumentation and resources for data communication, storage, visualization, and computation.
